What is the purpose of ASEAN?

ASEAN was established in August 1967 with the purpose of accelerating the economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region, and promoting regional peace and stability.

When was ASEAN formed? ASEAN was established August 8, 1967, by member countries Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore. The precursor of ASEAN was the Association of South East Asia, which consisted of the Philippines, Thailand, and the Federation of Malaya.

Thailand's Contribution to ASEAN Thailand attaches great importance to enhancing cooperation within ASEAN frameworks to build trust and confidence among ASEAN Member States, as well as to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region. Thailand's contribution to ASEAN has been continuous and active.
